  • How is the Weather in Portugal? April, May, June, September and October are the ideal months for a walking holiday to northern Portugal. In spring and autumn, there is always a chance of experiencing some rain. Days can be warm and sunny or chilly and possibly windy, especially on the coast, so come prepared for changeable conditions. May, June and September tend to be warmer with less chance of rain. July and August are usually the hottest months, with temperatures regularly exceeding 30 degrees Celcius.

 

 

  • What is the Time Zone? Portugal is in the same time zone as most of Western Europe (UTC+00:00), which is +5 hours of Eastern Standard USA, +8 hours of Pacific Standard USA time and -10 hours of Australian Eastern Time. Due to differences in daylight savings, there may be +1 hour difference.

 

 

  • Passport & Visas: A passport with 6 months remaining validity is generally required for visits from countries outside the EU. Please check the relevant embassy or consulate. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct travel documents and visas for your holiday. Visa requirements and charges are subject to change without notice. Europe passports do not require a visa.

 

 

  • Medical issues: You should contact your doctor to check whether you require any specific vaccinations.

 

 

  • What is a self-guided tour?  On a self-guided tour, you navigate the route yourself with the aid of our Roadbook and GPS with all the tracks. We provide all the information you need including suggestions, maps, instructions, directions, and things to see. Our self-guided tours is a complete and affordable holiday, tailored specifically for independent travellers. They offer the same quality, style, service and comforts of typical guided trips with the freedom and flexibility of making your own decisions about how you spend your time.

 

 

  • How do I Prepare for a walking holiday? We recommend that before starting you should adapt your body for long walks. The fitter you are, after all, the more enjoyable you will find the experience. You should comfortable with walking 4 to 6 hours for consecutive days with some ups-and-downs on varied terrain, from tarmac roads to dirt paths and rocky or muddy tracks. Hill walking, with a reasonable amount of ascent and descent, is the best training for a walking holiday.

 

 

  • What to Pack for a walking holiday?

  14. Basic First Aid Kit: Antiseptic cream, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), painkillers, glucose tablets and multi-vitamin tablets.

  • What are the departure dates? All our tours are available daily from March to November.

 

 

  • How to book a program? Please send an email to contact@portugalgreenwalks.com and tell us the number of people, date of departure and the services you need.

 

 

  • How far in advance should I make a booking? Demand for walking holidays in Portugal has increased over recent years and in some places, suitable accommodation is limited. For that reason, we recommend reserving your place as soon as possible. We accept reservations with 1 year in advance.

 

 

  • How does luggage transfer work?  Each morning you leave your luggage at the accommodation reception before departing. Our team will collect and deliver your luggage to the next accommodation. Full instructions will be included in the travel documents.

 

 

  • Do you have Support during all the tour? Yes, we provide 24/7  support through our Support Services mobile number from the beginning to the end of the tour.

 

 

  • What type of bikes do you use in your bike tours? The normal bikes will be the “Cannondale trail 5″ and the Ebikes will be “BH Rebel Lynx 5.5”

 

 

  • What are your payment terms? After confirmation, we will request a deposit. The final payment should be made at least 30 days before your arrival date.

 

 

  • What are my Payment options? We accept payment from all major credit cards (through a secure link), bank transfer or PayPal.

 

 

  • What is your Cancellation policy?
    • More than 30 days before the expected arrival date – 10% of the total cost
    • From 29 to 15 days before the expected arrival date – 50% of the total cost
    • Less than 15 days before the expected arrival date – 100% of the total cost

 

 

  • When will I receive the route notes (one day tours excluded)? After confirmation of the tour and payment of the deposit, we will send you some preparation advices. On After the final payment you will receive by email your roadbook, which includes detailed route notes and 24-hour emergency contact details. If you have any questions, our travel specialists are available to answer all your questions. Please note that on day 1 you will have a briefing with a member of our staff and you will receive a Tour Package with all the information (roadbooks, tags for luggage transfers, etc)

 

 

  • Should I get travel insurance?  We recommend you play it safe and purchase travel insurance before your holiday.

 

 

  • Tipping: Tipping is accepted but is not usual in Portugal. Tipping is entirely voluntary and should be done at your discretion and as a reward for quality service.

 

 

  • Electricity: 220 volts is used in Portugal with two round prong plugs for the outlets. Make sure you have the proper adapters & transformers for your digital cameras, electrical shavers, etc.
